Where we are tonight - Tuesday 23rd September

Vanessa should have the 100 printed invites now.

Urjuan has the vinyl in hand for the windows and walls with a few amendments from me today.

Paul Haslam has agreed to speak for half an hour on Launch Night at 6.30pm.

I have sent the logo for Murray’s onto Urjuan to be added to the text to go on the wall vinyl in the Link Gallery.

• 30 vinyls will be digitally printed in CMYK by Murray’s on their Intaglio Press for the tables on the night. That will allow for mistakes as we assemble them. Murray’s will need a few days to turn round the print.
• I need the artwork tomorrow as a cmyk pdf.
•  We will need to score diagonally across the long edge from opposite corners so we stick one ‘triangle’ to the table with the ‘Working with Paper’ brand, and then have a description of the process stuck to thick colour plan to allow the other attached ‘triangle’ stand up.

I have asked for 150 sheets Cobalt Blue; 150 sheets Park Green; and 100 sheets Factory Yellow in 175gsm to cover the tables.

I have asked for 150 sheets Cobalt Blue and 150 sheets Park Green 700gsm in 630 x 960 sheet size for the hanging triangles.

The paper to be printed on is going to be a mixture of colours, make and weight. I have asked for:

• 3600 x A4 for 6 different designs (water based Screen printing; heat reactive Thermocromatic ink; and heat reactive Puff binding
• 1200 x A5 for 2 different designs (blind embossing; and Conductive ink pens including LED lights and batteries)
• 1800 x A6 for 3 different designs (Letterpress on the Adana; and Lasercut Lino printing)
• C4 envelopes for the 'goody bags’ -  400 x Cobalt Blue; 200 x Park Green; and 300 x Factory Yellow (amounts may be reduced).
• I have also asked about large piles of paper to put on the pallets.

Paper and envelopes will be with us hopefully by the end of the week.
We hope to get a box of Books, which would help explain the project to go on the magazine / book rack we had made for our Final Show we can tie them to as part of the exhibition.
Vanessa is chasing the films ‘Bright Red’ and ‘Making’ to put on a loop with our film.

The making day is Monday 29th, to test out the equipment and also start to make up some goody bags ready for the night.

The exhibition will arrive on Wednesday 1st October.

• I will some of you there, and I also need to organise caretakers and techs to help assemble it from 10.30am in the Link Gallery. Cases are heavy and will need their legs screwed on.
•  also need to organise them to help hang the triangles from the poles round the windows in the Link Gallery; and sofits in the Project Space.

Monday 15th update meeting

Where we are today:

• 100 x Invites left to screen print tomorrow with Letterpress printing starting on Wednesday with Liam in 205 Print room.
  (Bec; Salma, Jake).
• T-Shirts will be started tomorrow hopefully and finished Wednesday / Thursday.
  (Amanda, Charlotte, possibly Amalie).
• Filming of the printing will take place Tuesday / Wednesday.
  (Jason & John).
• Floor plans to be finished for Richard Hylton, including suggested colour walls.

• 'Working with Paper' foil block to be commissioned.
  (Sallyanne with Urjuan).
• After disscussion with Urjuan the design of the front windows have changed to 'Working with Paper' in yellow vinyl (Murrays?) on the front of the windows with coloured card triangles spinning behind. Testing needs to be done.
  (Bec, Amanda, Chloe, Purna; & Sallyanne to confirm with Vanessa).
• This design will need to be replicated in the Project Space for the Launch Night.
• Card for the Triangles after testing.

• Artwork for the Vinyls for the tables using the same branding as the T-Shirts.

Project Space - Launch night plan

I have had a series of very good meetings with many people today (thank you all) and currently we are working towards the following:

• 2 x Screen printing work stations (on one table)
• 2 x Theromcromatic ink (ink that will react to heat) work stations (on one table)
• 2 x Puff Binder (white ink that 'puffs up' with heat) work stations (on one table)
• 1 x Heat Press to work with Puff Binder
  (this will need a power socket near by)
• 1 x Conductive ink pens (with LED lights and batteries) table
• 1 x Letterpress with the Adana Press table
• 1 x Foil block printing to put title of Exhibition on the 'goody bags' table
  (this will need a power socket near by)
• 2 x Lino press workstations using lazercut lino  (one one table)
• 1 x Blind embossing table
• 2 x 'A' Frame 'washing lines' using pins and bull dog clips
• 2 x Display tables for 'Papersmith' and stationary

 11 tables in total, plus

1 x film 'Bright Red' made by 'Made Thought' will be showing.
1 x film documentary of the work the students have done to put this together.

The printed items need a theme for them to all 'work together' in the goody bag and students are identifying 'clever' typographic words to use. 

There will be 2 FPI graduates who have been working with Liz, helping on the night.
Urjuan, Laura and Mika will also be running work stations in addition to the curation team.
We will hopefully have 17 - 20 'runners' from the first year to help.

Tabletops will need to be covered in white paper and students are designing vinyl to be printed to go on top and help 'label' the tables.

T- Shirts with the same design will hopefully be printed to provide a clear identity for the students and staff involved in the exhibition.

The large title on display in the Link Gallery windows will be replicated in the Project Space as well for Launch night.

Update including the title for the show

We now have a title for the show:  "Working with Paper"

• We will be equal partners with GF Smith and are waiting for the text to arrive from Vanessa for the Cabinets.

• Vanessa suggested we think about waterproof paper for the outside wayfinding; and maybe a digital paper for the rest. She was also thinking of Parchmarque, Marlemarque and Plike as possibles.

• I saw a film last week about their bookmaking that we can incorporate into the show behind a table with their bookmaking on show and our hot foiling near by.

• Vanessa has started to tell customers about October 2nd and Sony and their team have said they are coming already.
